Ba-buh-beh-ba-ba! Ba-buh-beh-ba-ba! Ba-buh-bada-ba-buh-baaaaaah!

See, it’s funny because a text blog is kind of like a dinosaur: it’s extinct. I should be doing hour long video essays on Youtube about how the new James Bond game is woke. That’s where the real money is. But, I have nothing if not my stupid fucking integrity, so let’s lay a few words down and see what happens.

I don’t really know what I want to do with this page. There’s a part of me that wants to write 5,000-word essays about video games, movies, and culture. There’s another part of me that just wants to write 500-word reviews about whatever game I’m playing at the moment. Or maybe I should just say fuck it, and write some Paste-style listicles. Or guides. I hear there’s good money in guides. Not as much as right-wing grifting on Youtube, but still more money than academic essays.

Maybe the best way to explain what to expect on this blog is to explain a bit about myself. I am MarMar0326, but you can call me Chris. I am a pop culture essayist living in eastern Nebraska, where I live with my wife and dogs. I play a lot of video games, but I absolutely love RPGs and Souls-likes. I watch a ton of movies, but my favorite genres are science-fiction and horror. I am a card-carrying socialist, and much of my writing examines how the media we consume both empowers and counters the power structures between lower and upper classes. I’m sure that all sounds incredibly exciting to you. I know it sounds exciting to me.

Hopefully, if nothing else, it gives you an idea of what I intend to write about. Maybe one day, you can read my thoughts on game developers losing their jobs (spoiler alert: it’s bad!). Another day, you might find a 2,500-word piece on how Super Mario Odyssey contains shades of an ideology of Imperialism. Or, you might even get my opinion on Obsession, the best horror movie of the year (spoiler alert: it’s very good).

Whatever you find, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it. Even if you don’t come back, I leave you with one message I hope you take to heart: go see Obsession, because that movie fucking rules.
